Benchmade Knife

Northwest Paper box presented the concept to Senior Marketing Manager, Matt Elliott, in October of 2014.  The concept was for a rigid set up box with a foil stamp, and although the foil stamp option was ultimately not chosen, it helped with the visual appeal to the Benchmade team.  The rigid set up box did have the impact that Benchmade was looking for, however, along with a special printed label that incorporated a special UV effect to give product depth.

Mr. Elliott presented the options to all levels within the organization and worked through the process with the team there, including manufacturing, purchasing, and upper Management.  Benchmade Manufacturing and Purchasing had concerns about the overall packaging cost, inventory, and availability, but with a slight change in the interior foam packaging and the improved assembly speed in which the rigid box assembly can be erected vs the old folding carton version, there was almost no net cost increase to Benchmade to make the change. The inventory issue was handled with a JIT system along with a min/max approach in manufacturing and the project was greenlighted.

Excitement and pressure mounted with the pending 2015 SHOT show coming quickly.  The anticipation was met with a great response from all customers and end-users at the launch.  Feedback continues to be positive from all verticals and customer communications and dealer inventory management have seen improvements as a result of the change.
